Pete Raho designs and builds furniture in Gowanus, Brooklyn. He lives there too.  He makes things here.  (They also offer great classes at all levels.)

Follow Gowanus Furniture Co. on Twitter for design and neighborhood news, and like it on Facebook to receive special deals and preview new products.  You can also sign up for the newsletter.

Live with pieces that you want to live with. Don't put up with disposable furniture.

The designs have always come from a desire to solve a problem, where the only available solutions are either unattractive or too expensive (or both). More often they just don't exist. The work is influenced by the likes of Nakashima and great Danish Modern designers like Juhl with their organic forms, but also by others such as Corbusier and van der Rohe who were wedded to a certain timeless rationality. There's also some Judd and Serra in there too. The work is a blend of those two extremes - rational calculations leading toward warm pieces that start a conversation.

Pete received his BS majoring in both Biology and Art History from Fordham University in the Bronx, and later an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business, specializing in Strategy.  He previously spent a lot of time working all over an auction house, as well as a lot (but never enough) time in the woods.

He's more flashlight than laser.
